Butyl Liquid Rubber

Tips for Keeping a Butyl Liquid Rubber Roof in Good Shape

A butyl liquid rubber roof is a fantastic option for keeping your roof in great shape now and well into the future. It can work on many different types of roof substrates with no issue, and when you take care of your roof and coating, it can last for years without issue. In some cases, it could last for decades.

The coating should waterproof your roof and ensure that you don’t have to worry about leaks or other issues. While there is not much that you need to worry about when it comes to taking care of the roof coating, you’ll still want to set up a maintenance and inspection schedule.

Doing the following a couple of times a year can help to ensure your roof is in good shape. You may also want to check the roof after any major storms or other issues that could have caused damage.

Get onto the Roof and Look for Visual Damage

Safely head up to the roof and look for damage. Although butyl liquid rubber roofs are long-lasting and tend not to crack or leak, there is still the potential for damage to occur. This most often happens because of falling and flying debris that hits the roof. This could cause small years and punctures in the coating. If those tears are deep enough, they could provide a way for water to get onto the roof.

Do a visual inspection of the roof to look for signs of tears, holes, and other damage. If there are signs of damage, you can typically add some more of the coating to the area, which will provide a patch.

Clean the Roof

While you are on the roof, remove any debris or leaves that have fallen onto the roof. Sweep the roof to remove the loose dirt and other items. Then, you should clean the roof with some professional cleaner. In some cases, you might find that moss is growing on the roof.

Using professional cleaning solutions will remove any moss, algae, mold, or other materials on the roof to ensure that it’s clean. It’s important to make sure that the cleaner you are using can be used with your butyl liquid rubber coating, so it doesn’t cause any damage.

Ideally, you will clean the roof a couple of times a year. If you live in a location where it snows, you won’t have to clean your roof in the winter, of course. Instead, clean it in the spring and the late summer or early fall.

Don’t Ignore the Little Problems

The butyl liquid rubber is a durable material that’s made to last for decades without problems. You might feel that if you find one or two small issues, such as those caused by falling debris, you can hold off on repairing them. This is a bad idea. When you find those small issues, you should take care of them as soon as possible. Otherwise, they are just going to get worse and be more difficult to handle.

Take the time to repair them now. Fortunately, the coating makes this easy. You can repair small areas quickly, and you don’t have to hire a professional to do it if you don’t want to. Most of the time, making those little repairs will take a matter of minutes once your coating is ready.

By caring for your roof and providing this basic maintenance, you’ll find that it can last for a long time. Don’t forget the importance of proper roof care, and you shouldn’t have to worry about catastrophic damage in the future.
